Aug. 23, 2023 - HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - With each passing day, more victims of the Lahaina wildfire are being positively identified based on DNA samples provided by loved ones. Maui County said the missing-persons list following the blaze is now at 1,054.


Initial Report - Aug. 10, 2023 - LAHAINA - Maui County says 36 people are now confirmed dead in the devastating wildfires that have decimated entire towns, including historic Lahaina. The heartbreaking news, which some feared could rise even higher, makes the wildfires one of the deadliest disasters in Hawaii history. The death toll — up from six earlier in the day — was confirmed just before 10 p.m. Wednesday and came as firefighters continue to battle flames and search for survivors. Source: Hawaii News Now

Mercy Chefs is quickly responding to the catastrophic wildfires in Maui, Hawaii. We are beginning to raise support for our partners on the ground to provide food and supplies as best we can with the current limited access to the island. Our first team members will be on the ground with 24 hours.

Several fatalities have already been reported and based on our source on the island, everything is worse than the news is saying. Burn victims are overwhelming the Maui hospitals and the island residents have been evacuated into central locations. The island is in desperate need of our support, and we will do all we can but we can’t do it without your help.

Samaritan’s Purse has deployed North American Ministries assessment teams to Hawaii to determine our relief response following deadly wildfires that swept through Maui this week.
