Economic Loss Estimate

Based on analysis by AccuWeather, the preliminary damage and economic loss estimate for the hurricane is $48–$52 billion (entire storm event) and $5B in estimated insured losses for Jamaica alone, with a total of $22 billion in damage and economic losses for just Jamaica.

To put this into perspective, Jamaica's landmass is smaller than the state of Connecticut and has a GDP of about $20B (in current US$). Hurricane Helene (2024) was $100B after impacting 6 US states. Support Jamaica - Official Disaster Relief & Recovery Portal

Damage Assessment

Serve Source has included a damage assessment layer on our ArcGis Map that was performed using Microsoft AI for Good Lab that has a preliminary assessment of affected buildings in west Jamaica.

There is an estimated 90,000+ people homeless.

Key Response Highlights

  • Strategic Distribution Hubs - Multiple churches have been identified as anchor points for relief, becoming safe, trusted locations for food, water, and shelter support.

  • Shared Ground Intelligence - Teams on the ground are providing real‑time assessments to the network, allowing Serve Source to compile and distribute verified information quickly.

  • Logistics Coordination - Through collaboration fostered on Serve Source calls, partners like Mercy Chefs, Food For The Poor, Judah One, and local Jamaican ministries are navigating customs, securing warehouse space, and accelerating the flow of relief supplies.

  • Connectivity & Communication - Serve Source partners are coordinating the placement of Starlink units at churches and community centers to restore communications in areas where families have not been heard from since landfall.

Serve Source’s Role in the Response

Serve Source’s platform, communication ecosystem, and DRRN partnerships are serving as the connective tissue of this response. Serve Source has been boots on the ground across the island of Jamaica and by hosting coordination calls, maintaining updated situational awareness, and managing a shared partner map, Serve Source enables:

  • Faster collaboration between U.S.‑based and Jamaican partners

  • Rapid visibility into needs and resources

  • Avoidance of duplicated efforts

  • Amplified reach for each organization by pointing donors and churches to their official websites

This collaborative approach is already unlocking new opportunities—from securing distribution centers to opening doors with government ministries and private‑sector partners.
