On March 28, 2025, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Southeast Asia, causing widespread devastation across multiple countries. The epicenter was located near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city. Rescue operations are ongoing and partner organizations are responding. Efforts are hampered by damaged infrastructure and ongoing aftershocks.


Casualties and Damage:

  • Myanmar: The earthquake resulted in over 3,600 fatalities and over 4,850 injuries. The city of Mandalay experienced extensive destruction, with buildings, bridges, and dams severely damaged.

  • Thailand: In Bangkok, the tremors caused the collapse of a 30-story office tower under construction, leading to 18 deaths and leaving 78 people missing.

  • China’s Yunnan Province: The quake was felt in Yunnan, causing injuries and damage to hundreds of homes.
