Event Summary

Ruidoso, New Mexico – July 8, 2025 Flash Flood
On July 8, an intense monsoon deluge—3.5 inches of rain in just 90 minutes—swept through burn-scarred hillsides around Ruidoso, triggering catastrophic flash flooding of the Rio Ruidoso. The river crested at a record 20 feet, nearly 5 feet above the previous high. Tragically, three people—a man in his 40s–50s and two children (ages 4 and 7)—were swept downstream and killed. Emergency responders executed 50–85 swift-water rescues, and at least 200 homes were damaged or destroyed. A state of emergency was declared, shelters opened, and federal assistance was requested to help the community begin the long road to recovery.  Additional Details
