Aug. 23, 2023 - HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - With each passing day, more victims of the Lahaina wildfire are being positively identified based on DNA samples provided by loved ones.  Maui County said the missing-persons list following the blaze is now at 1,054.

Initial Report - Aug. 10, 2023 - LAHAINA - Maui County says 36 people are now confirmed dead in the devastating wildfires that have decimated entire towns, including historic Lahaina. The heartbreaking news, which some feared could rise even higher, makes the wildfires one of the deadliest disasters in Hawaii history. The death toll — up from six earlier in the day — was confirmed just before 10 p.m. Wednesday and came as firefighters continue to battle flames and search for survivors.  Source: Hawaii News Now
